Dear Sir, |
Enclosed herewith please find Statement of
Amt of Shipments from this point Via W&M RR to Wilmington for the
army in Virginia. The shipments from Augusta Ga to go via Wilmington
N. C. has been light during July. |
I keep every thing moving forwarded promptly
and at no time since I have been at this post, has government property
ever been detained at this point. |
On the 19th inst the Agency of Wilmington
& Manchester Rail Road at Kingsville was tendered to me by the
board of directors of said, and I accepted the position, and my reason
for doing so was simply that I might be the better prepared to move
forward all supplies for the army going over this road. |
Since I came here, I have had no little
trouble with sharpers and speculators who have been trying
hard all the time to edge in their shipments ahead of government
supplies, but as agent of the road I will have the inside track on
them. The Supt of the road will aid me in getting of{f}
supplies to the full capacity of his rolling stock. |
Yours truly &c |
