before the Sec. of War your letter of 2d ulto with regard to the claim
of Maj. J. D. Whitford, late Q. M., together with one of his own, I
have to inform you that the Sec. has decided that, under the peculiar
circumstance of the case payment may be made Maj. W. for the period of
his service under the order of Lt. Col. Sims. |
