Brig. Genl. A. R. Lawton

General,
The requirements of the Commander of the local forces at Augusta Ga. that the employees of the Georgia Railroad have weekly drills is working an injury to transportation and I ask that they be excused from this military duty.
If this road was only engaged in its own repairs this entreaty would not be made, but the machinery of two refugee roads, the Nashville & Chattanooga, and E. T. & Ga. {East Tennessee & Georgia} RRds, is repaired in the shops of this Co. and it is important that no time should be lost, except in cases of extreme necessity.
It is therefore respectfully recommended that the employees of this Co. be excused from the weekly drills.
I am, General,
Very respy
