   I certify that the above account is correct and just; that the articles have been accounted for me on my property return for the fourth quarter ending on the 31 day of December 1862.

   Received at Mt. Jackson the 31 of December 1862 {rest of document not visible due to a fold of the bottom on the paper}
 
   Impressed property paid for by Government December 1862. The "date of purchase" in the margin of account appended being the date on which the Government ceased to pay hire on the property, is therefore assumed as the correct date of purchase.

State of Virginia, Shenandoah County to wit
   This day personally appeared Alexander Lutz before me a Justice of the Peace & made oath that he has not received any compensation for the within Horses & harness since their impressment, except the return of a Bay Mare, within receipted for & that the said Horse & harness are still in the Confederate States Service to the best of his knowledge. The above statement was also verified by Samuel W. & Lem H Rintree who made oath to the correctness of the above statement. Given under my hand this 29th day of November 1862.
