Major,
   You will please receive from Lt. Col. Minor Meriwether the two engines "Giles" and "Pulaski" and ??? said the disposition of them as the necessities of transportation may require. Either by letting them remain when they are or transferring them to more needy roads.
   You will contract such rental and conditions for the use of them, naming other machinery, that may come into your hands, the rates paid for any of like class in the section where it may be used, being careful in allowing contracts that the hires assess risk of loss or damage by the public enemy.
   Should you discover engines or cars without any representative in the Confederacy take possession, repair and put them to work.
Very respy
F. W. Sims
Lt Col &c
{The two engines were from the Central Southern RR, in Tennessee. When and how Col. Meriwether acquired them is unknown.}
