Major,
Your letter of the 9th Inst received, and purport particularly noted: Lt C Selden telegram, in regard to the missing keg of nails, was, immediately upon its receipt at this Department, referred to Capt T. R. Sharp, A. Q. M. at Columbia S. C. to whose care the consignment was shipped, for further transportation, and who at the time, was not only advised of the shipment, but also furnished with the receipt of the Agent of the Charlotte & South Carolina Rail Road Company for the seventy three kegs nails in good order to be delivered to him at Charlotte Junction. My whole duty has been performing in the ???, and it devolves upon Capt Sharp to show what has become of the lost keg nails, or to report the Road as being responsible for the value of them.
Respectfully
R. J. Echols
Maj & Q. M.
