Colonel, |
On the 25th ult, I had the
honor to address you, enclosing list of detailed soldiers in our service
whose details expired on the 31st Oct 1864, requesting your aid in
procuring extensions of the same; and since which time I again wrote you
on the 1st inst requesting your interest in the extension of detail of
Private "Wm A. Bolick" Co "J" 6th S. C. Regt, formerly of Co K" 1st S.
C. Cav. Not having yet heard from them, I will again trouble you to give
the matter your attention, as these men are all skilled & valuable to
the service, and it is very important that we retain them. |
One of the men "E. W. Ehnoy"
Co "D" 5th S. C. Cav. has been ordered to his regiment in Virginia, by
the Secty of War, but upon presentation of the urgent necessity of his
services here, General Hardee has suspended the order for eight or ten
days in which to hear from my application. |
I herewith enclose another
list of the parties and would earnestly request your kind aid in
obtaining their details; they are indispensable for the efficient
operations of the Road, as well as the good of the general service. |
I am Colonel |
Very Respectfully |

Respy reports Q. M. General, this
application cannot be too strongly urged. The So. Ca. R Rd is one of our
weak points and with all the aid we can give it we can only hope it will
hold its own, but if these men are withdrawn the consequences will be
most serious to our transportation. Your early and earnest attention is
invited. |
