Capt,
I have to report, that a careful examination of the Washington County Railroad Bridge over the Brazos River, has convinced me, that it is not susceptible of temporary repairs, and I can suggest no plan by which it can be made safe, except to take the whole Bridge down and reconstruct it. This is a work of considerable magnitude, and would involve a cost of Eighty or Ninety thousand dollars, and three or four months time.
With the very limited amount of (first class) mechanical labor to be controlled in this State, I do not know but that my Estimate may be increased at least one Hundred Per Cent.
I would here state, that the Bridge may last in its present condition for months, or it may fall at any moment.
Very Respy Yours
E. L. Heriot
