Quartermaster General's Department
Richmond, 12th July 1862

Gen. Robt E Lee
Commanding Army
Near Rapidan, Va

Sir,
Since the receipt of your fist letter in regard to the property abandoned by the Enemy, I must state that one hundred wagon loads thereof have been brought from the Pamunky. The trains which left there Thursday night, was hurried off by the officer commanding at that point, in consequence of the reported approach of the enemy.
In response to your suggestion received today, I have sent a train, in charge of Capt Crump A Q Master, to the White House, which will bring off all the property which can be secured, with the assistance and participation of the 4th Va. Cavalry.
A. C. Myers, Q. M. Genl
