Quartermaster General's Department
Richmond, June 1, 1863

Major C. S. Carrington
Q. M.
Raleigh N. C.

Sir,
Your letter of the 30th ultimo has been received.
The Commissary General declines to accede to the proposition you made to exchange flour for corn at Charlotte. I suggest that you obtain supplies from Georgia, through Major F. W. Dillard, at Columbus, Georgia.
If you will state specifically where the 300,000 bushels of corn {2,000 car loads} referred to as being shipped for the army in Western Virginia is. I will order a portion of it to be divested for the army of Northern Virginia. I have no idea, however, that such a quantity has been purchased or is being shipped for that command.
A. C. Myers, Q. M. Genl.

P. S. W. H. Shaw has been appointed Transportation Agent at Kingsville to superintend the two points you mentioned.
