The Government knows nothing of an
exchange of engines between the M&C {Memphis
& Charleston} and N&C {Nashville
& Chattanooga} Rail Roads. Mr. Tate says the engine for
which the Draft is held was turned over to the Nashville &
Chattanooga Road by General Bragg's order. You should therefore get an
acknowledgement from that road of its responsibility for the engine,
and release the M&C Road from the payment of the draft. The road
which has the engine should be alone held liable for its value. |
