Quartermaster General's Department
Richmond, March 20th 1863

Major L. P. Mitchell
Quarter Master Petersburg Va

Sir,
It is not advisable to send an Agent to Georgia to purchase Corn, for the Army about Petersburg, or for general distribution. There is already more grain, stored there, than can be well preserved. The difficulty is one of transportation, and I am now doing all in my power to remove that, as far as it may be practicable.
A. C. Myers, Q. M. Genl.
