In reply to your inquiry respecting the terms on which
the North Carolina R. Rd transports government freight &c I have to
state |
The rates charged are two cents per mile per man & for
freight one half of the local prices. Payment is made in Confederate
Bonds and Treasury notes & of course only for men in the service of &
supplies belonging to the Confederate States. The rail road accounts are
certified by the orders for transportation or certificates of service,
where men are carried; and in case of freight, by the receipt of
authorized persons or the agent of connecting lines. |
