Wilmington has reported to this Department, that all the ordnance and
ordnance stores en route from Richmond to the south are landed on the
warf of the Wilmington & Weldon R. R. Company and, to have them
transported to the warf of the Wilmington & Manchester Road,
enormous rates have to be paid to a private ferry boat, the steam
ferry boat belonging in common to the two R. R. Companies refusing to
take them, as it does other through freight. This statement is
communicated to you, while at Wilmington, that you may give your
immediate attention to the subject, and have the evil resulting from
this action of the R. R. Companies remedied without delay. |
