Quartermaster General's Department
Dec. 18th 1864

Major T. J. Noble
Montgomery, Ala.

Major,
I have already written you, under instructions from Q. M. Genl. to ship corn as rapidly as possible to Columbus & Macon, until both places are filled with it to their capacity. I am this morning instructed further to write you to ship corn to Atlanta, so soon as you shall learn that the cars from West Point are running to that City. It seems probable that our earliest R. R. connection with the West will be via Atlanta & it is desirable to have some corn at our command in that region.
W. F. Alexander, Maj. & Q. M.
