Sir,
I have recd from Surgeon Cabell, in charge of the Hospital at your post, a letter, asking that I would have the winter fuel needed by the patients brought up by the {Virginia} Central rail road; and expressing doubt whether it could be procured in any other way. I have just written informing him of the result of a conference I had with Mr Whitcomb Supt of that road. It is beyond the power of the road to transport the wood, & I desire that you will lose no time in making other suitable provision to insure a supply. Terms can surely be procured in your vicinity to haul fuel; & the country itself abounds in wood. During the mild spell that now prevails you can lay in a supply ahead & I trust keep the Hospital from want in this particular. Let me hear from you in reply.
