Sir,
   I am instructed by the Q. M. Genl. to acknowledge the receipt of your telegram of 17th and to reply that there is certainly no disposition to put upon your road any iron, except such as may be absolutely necessary as it is almost impossible to supply even that.
   Your views as to the iron required on your road, are invited and will receive the most careful consideration.
