Richmond, 16 Nov. 1861

Captain W J Hawkins
Asst Qr Master

Sir,
You are assigned to the duty of collecting forage -- corn, sheaf oats and hay on the line of the Raleigh & Gaston Rail Road, and at Clarksville Virginia. Have the forage bagged and bailed convenient for transportation to Richmond or other points that may hereafter be designated.
You will apply to Captain E. B. Branch for bailing machines to be supplied from Petersburg -- he is the Quarter Master at that place; or you may purchase the machines if you can procure them elsewhere more speedily.
The prices you pay will be regulated by the fair market rates. Funds will be remitted you on your estimates to meet the necessary disbursements.
Very Respectfully
Your obt svt
A. C. Myers, A. Q. M. G.
