| Secretary of War |

| Sir, |
| I respectfully submit that the detention
of the cars of the {Virginia} Central
Rail road Company, at Gordonsville, occasions great inconvenience
and embarrassment to the Quarter Masters Department, and interferes
materially with the transportation of troops and supplies. |
| I request, therefore, in view of the
demands of the public interest, that a sufficient number of the
cars, belonging to that Company, be transferred to Richmond, so soon
as it can possibly be done. |
