Richmond, Va., February 5, 1863
 
In order to sustain Genl Lee's army in its present position for the next six weeks, he will have to ship to him from this city 100,000 bushels corn {5,600,000 lbs, requiring about 350 car loads over 6 weeks, or 8 1/3 car loads, or 1/2 a train, a day}, and in order to supply the vacancy desires QM Genl to request the Sec of War to issue such orders as will secure the immediate transportation to this place of the corn stored at Weldon and Tarboro NC
