General,
On last evening, we called on Maj. Ranney Prest. of the New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern Rail Road, and handed him the enclosed letter from Mr. Jno. O. Freeman of this city, the Attorney of Rail Road Company, with your order for the transportation of our Cotton over the Road, and he repeated his determination to adhere to the policy indicated in the enclosed letter addressed to us some ten days since. To wit, not to transport Cotton to Ponchatoula unless by the Express order from the Secretary of War. We therefore earnestly invoke your aid to procure the necessary orders to secure us the transportation.
Very respectfully
Your Obt. Servt.s
