Sir,
   Private Horace Harding of my company was detailed as Rail Road Superintendent on the Mobile & Ohio Rail Road on the 18th day of May 1862, by order of Genl G. T. Beauregard. He is still performing that duty, but if it is the wisdom of the Government that he be assigned to field service, I respectfully ask that he be ordered to report to his company commander without delay.

Private Horace Harding is Superintendent of Road Repairs on this Road, and his place cannot be filled outside of the Army. He was detailed by order of Genl. Beauregard about two years since for this duty & the Secty of War approved July 23d 1864 The recommendation of Lieut Genl Lee for a permanent detail for this duty.
