| In accordance with your Instructions to
use, I have had all the Cars, on the Railroads, north of James River,
belonging to our Company, and which, had been in the Services of the
Government collected. Out of 39 held to the Governmt, only 17 have
been found, the remaining 22 have been broken. Enclosed, I send you
the account due by the Government for these cars, and will feel
obliged by your sending me a cheque for the amount or a Certificate,
so as to enable me to transfer the amount to the Govt in lieu of my
indebtedness to them for material bought from them. |

| I have paid rent on the 39 cars named in
a/c herewith to June 30/63 and it appearing that in pursuance of order
of the Q. M. Genl. to collect & return said cars, you as my agent
have been able to find only 17 leaving 22 missing. I must therefore
refer you to the Q M Genl to settle the claim for loss and damage. |
