Colonel, |
This is the 4th day we have been here with an indefinite
prospect of getting off via R R. The company's agent here
{Houston Texas Central RR} hints at
Saturday though flats enough passed up this evening for the
accommodation of our entire train. We require 4 flats & nearly 4 stock
cars. Our animals are not in condition to attempt the trip down with
the present loads. If therefore the General & the staff wish to handle
their baggage within the shortest time I would respectfully suggest
that you issue an order directing the company to furnish the necessary
transportation immediately without which the train may not arrive
within a week or ten days. One days more march such as the two last
previous to our arrival at this place & scarcely a team would have
retained its compliment of mules, as it was three mules have either
died, been left on the road or broken down. |
If the Director of the road has ordered the necessary
cars to be brought up by tomorrow's train, we will get off on Saturday
as promised by the Agent here. If on enquiring you find he has given
no instructions, your earliest order will not enable us to leave
before Monday. |
I have the honor to be |

So long as they can load with cotton & there is a large quantity here
there is, I think little faith to be put in the promises of the agent. |
