NA, ENG 7/9/1863

Engineer Bureau
July 9th 1863

Col. W. H. Stevens
Corps Engrs &c &c

Colonel,
I am just informed that the cars are all ready to transport the pontoons to Staunton -- that the cars are at the depot {in Richmond}, ready -- but not a pontoon, nor any part of the bridge that is to go. Will you please to press this matter -- everything hangs upon the engineers.
The Secretary wishes the officer who goes with the boats and bridging to see that the flats are returned at once, as they will be needed here as soon as they can be sent back.
In haste,
J. F. Gilmer
Col Engrs & Chf of Bureau
