Captain, |
I am instructed by
Maj. Genl. Gilmer to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 22d
inst and to say in reply that he has already sent you instructions by
telegraph to remove the eleven miles of stringer track on the
Statesville Road {Atlantic, Tennessee
& Ohio RR} to Statesville, which he
supposes you have received. The matter of the exposed condition of the
N. C. R. R. has already been brought to notice by the recent
destruction of bridges, and the propriety of guarding them more
effectually in the future will be urged upon the Hon Sec'y of War. |
Your work of
relaying the slab track on the R. & D. R. R. is, as you have
supposed, in accordance with the views of the Bureau. |
I am Captain, Resp'y &c |
