Dear Sir,
I wrote a not this morning to Mr. Harvie {President, Richmond & Danville RR} calling his attention to the fact that negroes were coming in very slowly from the counties recently called on, owing in part, it is said, to want of transportation on your Road. If such is the case may I ask your attention to the matter, as both General Lee & Gen. Randolph consider the rapid completion of the defensive works on James River & in its vicinity as of great importance.
Very truly yours
A. L. Rives
