| Endorsement on letter from Col. Garnett
& Capt. Walker -- commissioners, proposing to replace rail road
iron taken by the Govt. with interest. |
| "Resp. returned to the Hon. Sec. of
War with the recommendation that the commissioners be authorized to
contract on behalf of the Government to replace the iron taken from
any company with interest in kind -- that is to say, having agreed as
to the amount of new iron to be returned as an equivalent, that this
amount shall be increased at the rate of seven per cent per annum, for
the period between the time of replacement or that seven per cent per
annum in money on the appraised value of the iron be paid by the
Govt." |
