Colonel,
   R. R. iron is needed to repair the Richmond & Petersburg R. R. & re establish communication. The Bureau has been informed that there is stored on the {Richmond &} York River R. R. a few miles from this City, about one mile of R. R. Iron, available in case of need. Please apply to Capt. W. G. Turpin Engrs corner 19th & Franklin st for information as to this iron & for assistance in securing promptly labor to assist in loading it on a train which Col Sims can doubtless order. Maj. Maynard should be requested to make prompt arrangements to haul the iron from the York River R. R. depot to that of the Richmond & Fredericksburg R. R. {This must be an error, probably in transcription into the Letter Book. Surely the iron was sent to the Richmond & Petersburg RR depot. This is confirmed by other letters.} The Bureau will offer you any aid in its power in accomplishing this purpose. No time should be lost.
Very Respt &c &c
