Engineer Bureau
Richmond, February 26th, 1863

Capt. Jas. M. Robinson
Engineer Corps P. A. C. S.
Richmond, Va.

Captain,
Enclosed is furnished a list of the articles which the Bureau desires you to procure in Europe.
The supply of entrenching tools & axes called for in the first list cannot be purchased unless the Hon. Sec. of Ear is able to send you additional funds. It is hoped however that the second list can be filled.
You are authorized to make such modifications or reductions as you may deem necessary and proper after careful consideration.
In purchasing books for this Bureau it is desired to procure some of the most modern and valuable works on the military art, particularly appertaining to Engineering. Secure if possible also the "Articles des Ponts et Chaussviz de France" subsequent to and including 1853.
Very Respectfully Yours
J. F. Gilmer
Colonel, & Chief of Engr. Bureau
