Hon W. D. Simpson
House of Representatives, C. S. Congress

Sir,
Your letter of the 10th inst. relative to the proposed impressment of the iron of the Laurens RR Co has been referred to this Bureau for reply, by the Hon Secy of War.
I have the honor to enclose herewith a copy of the Report of Col C F M Garnett Comr for the collecting of RR iron, together with extracts from the letters of Capt Walker upon which his report was based. Upon these the Hon Secy of War has placed the following endorsement.
"Col Garnett's report appears satisfactory, especially as a contenst {?} has been made."
17 Dec/63     JAS Secy
In consideration of the reasons advanced by Capt Walker & Col Garnett and approved by the Hon Secretary, there appears to be no grounds for reversing the action already taken by the Govt in regard to the removal of the iron from the railroad in question.
Very Respectfully Your Obt Servt
A. L. Rives
