Capt. L. P. Grant
Corps of Engineers PACS
Augusta Ga.

Captain,
Your letters of October 20th & 22d, together with accounts for 3d quarter have been duly received.
In consequence of the clerks having been sent to the front, the Treasury Department has been behind with warrants, which accounts for yours not receiving attention sooner. It will be attended to tomorrow.
In order to keep your office matters up, Major General Gilmer directs me to suggest that you may possibly secure the services of an experienced clerk over the military age in a business place like Augusta. Requisition for $100,000 was issued Oct. 26th.
Very respectfully
Your obedient Servant
J. H. Alexander
