Colonel,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of a letter of the 29th ult from Major C. A. Venable ADC &c in relation to the removal of railroad iron collected from the Orange & Alexandria RR and recommending the removal of the telegraph wire from the line between Occaquian and Falmouth.
Lt. W. D. Williamson of the Engrs has been directed to attend to the receiving and removal of the iron from the Orange & Alexandria RR. In case of delay I would suggest that the Quartermaster in Charge of the transportation of the O&A RR could materially assist Lt Williamson, and I respectfully request that instructions to that effect be given.
I have instructed Capt. Dickinson who is charged with the removal of the iron from the Acquia Creek road, to secure and remove so far as possible the wire from the Telegraph line between Falmouth and Dumfries.
