General,
I have the honor to acknowledge your letters of the 17th, 18th & 19th inst. conveying your instructions on the several questions which I had submitted to you. Your directions will in these cases, be promptly carried out.
Enclosed you will find copies of communications recently laid before the Bureau, on which I respectfully ask your instructions.

A letter has recently been received from Geo W Mader, Asst Engr, in which he states that he can make no progress in saving the iron and rolling stock of the Mississippi Railroads, as there is no commissioned officer with him to make the necessary disbursements, and requests therefore to be relieved from his present duty and ordered to report to Gen Leadbetter, who, he says, has informed him that he has need of his services on the Mobile Defences. Shall the Bureau comply with Mr. Mader's request?
A letter has been written to Major Lockett, recently exchanged and again on duty, calling his attention to the importance of reconstructing the big Pearl River Bridge, and saving iron and rolling stock of the Mississippi Central Railroad.
Very Respy Your Obt Servt
