Colonel,
I find that no corn meal is issued to the troops in this part of the Department. It is very desirable on many accounts that it should be. Corn is more abundant in the Confederacy than wheat and meal is more healthful than flour for troops in camp.
Corn is scarce in this Department but is understood to be abundant in the South. Agents have been sent to Georgia to purchase corn but it is difficult to procure transportation.
I respectfully urge that transportation by Rail Road be provided for the corn purchased and to be purchased in Georgia.
Very Respectfully
