| The Comdg Genl directs me to
say that Mr Benj Strange is authorized by the State of Mississippi to
manage the transportation of salt from Saltville for the people of their
state, and that believing the transportation of the salt required by
Mississippi to be of much consequence he requests that you furnish Mr
Strange with transportation from the rolling stock of the E. T. & Va. R.
R. {East Tennessee & Virginia RR} at such
intervals of time as may be desired, provided that such transportation
of salt does not interfere with resources of the Tenn R Rd and your own
requisite for military movements in the Dept. |
| The Comdg Genl also directs me
to ask you to furnish to these Hd Qrs a statement of the number &
condition of Engines, box cars & flat cars belonging to the E. Tenn. RR
Co, now in the possession of the V & Tenn RR Co & in which company's
service are the men now in charge of the Engines. |
