Houston June 9th 1863

Capt Goode
Ord. Officer

Sir,
I am directed by Maj Genl Magruder to say that if in your opinion the importance of the work, which will be set forth to you by the Prest of the Railroad, Col Sledge {President, Washington County RR}, who bears this, is sufficiently great to justify the suspension of the regular business in one of your workshops for the space of seven (7) or eight (8) days, you are at liberty to stop the work of your shop and cause his arrangement to be carried out. This position is a matter for you alone to determine. If in your opinion the advantages gained to the country by attending to his wants would be greater than the losses occasioned by the suspension of your work, you will accordingly cease your work long enough to arrange the matter connected with his engines.
I am, Capt, Very Respy
Your obt Svt
