Mr Morgan

Sir,
I am instructed by Maj Genl Magruder to say that he sent down Mr Nichols to see you and make arrangements with you for the purchase of a curtain number of trees for the purpose of being used in repairing the bridge on the Galveston & Houston RR {Galveston, Houston & Henderson RR}.
The Maj Genl Comdg has been informed that you ask Ten dollars per ton for these trees, which he regards as too high. Accordingly he has sent down an officer with directions to negotiate with you for this purpose & purchase this timber at reasonable rate, if not, the necessity of having this timber is so great that his officer has been directed to impress such quantity as may be necessary, in accordance with the provisions of the Impressments Act.
I am, Sir, Very Respy
