The Commanding General directs that you will without delay
enter into communication with the Superintendents of all the Georgia
Rail Roads that have access to Savannah {Central
(of Georgia) RR, Charleston & Savannah RR and Augusta & Savannah RR}
and endeavor to make an arrangement with some of them to lend
motive power to the Atlantic & Gulf Rail Road, for the transportation of
cattle from that line to Savannah. |

It is expected that the knowledge of the paramount
necessity of supplying the troops in Charleston will induce these
gentlemen to exert every effort for the accomplishment of the desired
object, one so important as to necessitate your sending an energetic
officer to arrange it, and who will see the Atlantic & Gulf Road in
working order for transportation of cattle before returning. |
