Colonel,
Your letter of the 13th instant concerning the short supply of coke used in the fabrication of projectiles, has been received, and I am instructed to reply that if the service of Mr Yendon (recently employed in bringing goods from Richmond) can be secured, you should send him to the coke and coal mines {almost certainly meaning northern Georgia/southern Tennessee} to secure a sufficient quantity and to arrange with the presidents of the Rail Roads to run one or more trains through to this city without stopping, to which end also confer with the Chief Qr Master.
Respectfully
Your Obt Servt

Chief of Staff
