The transportation of army supplies to and from points north of Jackson where our principal depot is established is very seriously impeded by the necessity under existing arrangements of changing cars at Canton. My object in addressing you, sir, is to know whether some arrangement cannot be made between the road you control and the N. O. J. & G. N. R. R. {New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern RR} to carry public stores, more especially subsistence, without transferring them at Canton. Every delay is injurious to the public service, when so many men are to be fed from distant depots & I feel confident that in conjunction with the authorities of N. O. J. & G. N. R. R. you will endeavor to remedy this evil.
Very resp'y
