| Your letter of the 16th inst was recd this
morning. |
| I have already directed a contract to be
made for re-building the Decatur Bridge {Memphis &
Charleston RR}, subject to the sanction of the War Dept. A copy
of the contract will be sent with this, and it is believed to be as
favorable for the Govt as can be made. |
| We propose to have the timbers for the
Bridge prepared and the bridge framed at some safe place, and in
readiness to put up as soon as it is safe to do so. |
| The Contractor is anxious to know as soon as
possible if the contract will be sanctioned by the War Dept. |
