Dear Sir,
Your letter of the 26th inst has just been received. The iron of the Florida road was ordered to be taken, because of the absolute necessity which has been forced upon us, of repairing the Rail Road between here & Opelika, without any delay.
It is evident that by no other means can the necessity be met so soon as by transferring the iron from you road, and as time is of vital importance, the orders which have been given for its removal requires that no delay can be interposed.
Please assure the directors of the Road that while the emergency which has called for the exercise of military authority is such as their patriotism will approve no just measure of compensation will be withheld on account of the injury to their property.
Very respectfully
Yr obt Sevt
Dabney H Maury
