Sir, |

Believing the present to be an appropriate time for such an
expression, I am directed by the Lieut General Commanding to express his
thanks to you and through you to the officers and employees of the
Southern RRd for the promptness with which that company has responded to
his requisitions for transportation, and other assistance in conducting
the military movements of this Dept. You have never failed to cheerfully
and promptly set upon any suggestion or request which he has found
necessary for the Service. Permit me, Sir, to add my thanks to those of
the Lieut Genl Comdg, as his A. A. General. I have perhaps been brought
in close relation with you than any other Staff officer here, and it
gives me pleasure to state you have ever been zealous in discharging
your duties to the Country, and Vigilant, energetic and faithful to your
stockholders and employees. You have displayed marked ability in the
Management of your road, and have I think done every thing in your power
to guard its interests. |
