| I desire the Mobile & Ohio RRoad rebuilt
as soon as possible. Have ordered Major Whitfield to take charge of
so much of the work of reconstruction as the Government can do. The
cooperation of yourself and the whole force of your Corporation it
is expected will be furnished. Shall order up this evening
{on a steamboat} to Gainesville two Locomotives to be placed
on M&O R Road by way of Gainesville Branch
(Mississippi, Gainesville & Tuscaloosa RR}. Will be glad to
have you organize a party to begin work force above as well as from
below. Major Whitfield has full authority to impress all property
necessary to aid you in your work. |
