Special attention of Secty of War |

Charleston, 6th April 1861 |

His Excellency President Davis |
Montgomery, Ala. |
|
Sir, |
I tender you my sword whenever
war begins or even now, should you regard it as inevitable. |
I have refrained from offering
my services earlier, believing that the requisite number of officers
might be obtained for the Confederate Army from those who have lately
resigned from the late U. S. Army. |
But, if after their superior
claims have been recognized, an additional number of officers shall be
needed, I beg you to regard me as ready to any moment, to go wherever
duty calls. |
With much respect &c |
Thos. F. Drayton |
Presdt. |
