Major, |
Since my despatch to you on of
this Morning, Major Echols has received a despatch from the Qr Master at
Raleigh instructing him to send no more corn forward
{up the North Carolina RR}, that he was
blocked up & cd not receive it. 2480 sacks {16 1/2
car loads} would have gone forward but for this & all Commissary
Corn. I understand that 3 Trains of the Raleigh & Gaston Road have been
impressed for the transportation of troops, which causes the delay &
obstruction at Raleigh. |
I find that 7609 sacks corn
{50 car loads} have gone ford from this,
since the 1st Decr ulto., which, with the number of sacks reported on
hand & here, corresponds very nearly to the shipments from the Columbia
Junction. |
I proceed to Raleigh tonight &
will do what I can to bring forward the corn. |
Very Respectfully |
W H Smith |
