Sir, |
You will proceed to Wilmington, N. C. for
the purpose of attending to the transportation of coal for the
Government Works at this place. |
On your route you will stop at Salisbury
long enough to see Mr. John J. Shaver, who has furnished us with
bricks at $9 per M. I wish to obtain fifty thousand additional bricks,
to be delivered on the cars at Salisbury, two thirds hard and one
third salmon; write me from Salisbury. |
Call upon Mr. Sumner, Supt of {North
Carolina} R. R., and obtain from him the necessary cars if not
already sent, Mr. Hall at Wilmington, the Agent of Mallett {President
of the Western RR} & Brown contractors for the Navy
Department, has the coal in charge. |
If necessary call upon the Quarter Master
at Wilmington for any assistance which he may be able to afford you in
executing this duty as promptly as possible. |
I wish you also to call upon the Supt of
the Wilmington & Goldsborough R. R. {Wilmington
& Weldon RR}, and ascertain from him if there will be any
difficulty in the way of getting transportation for our coal cars
about once a month on his road. |
If you meet Major Hottell, Govt Transpt
Agent, ask him for advice and assistance in the execution of this
duty. |
