Lieutenant-Colonel William Richardson Hunt, C. S. Army
Nitre and Mining Bureau
Selma, Ala.

Colonel,
You are aware that for two months we were without suitable iron for casting guns, and that we failed to obtain it for the want of transportation {on the Alabama & Tennessee River RR}. I made a report of the difficulties in obtaining transportation to Richmond, which the quartermasters have taken exception to.
Please inform me what were the causes of delay in the delivery of iron, and oblige.
Very respectfully, your obedient servant,
Catesby ap R. Jones
Commandant
