During the late war, the authorities of the
State of Georgia at Savannah seized a quantity of Rail Road iron, said
to be 491 tons, but the quantity I do not exactly remember, that William
Scott of Macon, formerly President of the Western and Macon R. Road
{Macon & Western RR} informed me he had
purchased from the then Agent of the Brunswick & Florida R. Road and
that said iron was taken by the authorities of the State fo Georgia at
Savannah and applied to the "Ladies Gunboat" as it was called, as
appeared from papers coming under my examination officially as Adjutant
and Inspector General of the State. |
